The country got a small boost Monday night when Fox Network commentator Bill O’Reilly said “I am going to move to Costa Rica and get out of everyone’s way.”

His on-air comments shortly after 6 p.m. got a quick reaction from some Costa Ricans who said the country would benefit from rich persons like O’Reilly moving here.

The right-wing commentator was addressing a Gallup Poll report that said 36 percent of the U.S. public and 46 percent of those who say they are Democrats said that rich people are of no benefit to the United States.

O’Reilly said that he was rich, thanks to his television success and that “class envy is being stoked by the Democratic Party.”

Then he had a one-sided debate with Mary Anne Marsh, former adviser to Sen. John Kerry, and Kirsten Powers, a USA Today contributor. Both are Democrats. Ms. Powers, at least believed in equal distribution of wealth.

That’s when he made the comment that if he was no good for the country he would move to Costa Rica.

“We are seeing less people with enough funds to survive coming to Costa Rica from the States, so please ask more people like O’Reilly to move here quickly,” said Angela Jiménez Rocha of Escazú almost immediately via email.

“In all seriousness, Costa Rica is on the mind of many people in the States,” she added. “If we could convince the government to make our country (like Panamá has done) more friendly to seniors with funds coming from the States, real estate values would move up.” She is a real estate appraiser.

Costa Rica seems to be the destination of choice for right-wing commentators. More than a year ago, Rush Limbaugh said he would go to Costa Rica if President Barack Obama’s health care plan were passed.  Press notices called the country a center of offshore medical care for U.S. citizens.

We have travelled to Costa Rica on several occasions and have stayed in various resorts, vacation homes and hotels, the Penthouse in Tamarindo is simply the best place we have visited. The view was spectacular for any of the 4 terraces with a totally unobstructed view of the beaches and surrounding mountains. The accomodations were excellent for our party of 6 with plenty of room to find your own space if you needed to. The kingbed in the Master’s Suite was a little hard, however, it worked for us. We use the kitchen daily for all our meals and the market was only 3 km down the road and had everything we needed and more, but there were plenty of nice resturants nearby if you wanted to eat out. Having direct access to the Diria Resort was also a wonderful plus for us. We had access to two pools and the beach was only minutes away. We walked the beach every morning during the week we were there it was not very busy and very enjoyable. We really enjoyed working with Blue Water Properties, from our first contact to the time we left, they were very helpful and friendly. I would recommend them to anyone who asks if they are travelling to CR. We really appreciated their advise and recommendations for activities to do while in Tamarindo. Tamarindo is a surfing town and our daughter had a wonderful experience with her first surfing lesson. There are many options for lessons, however, our experiece with Costa Rica Surfing was great. We can’t say enough about this property. It is on the top two floors of this unit and is situated at the end facing the beach, in our opinion, the prime condo unit in the whole complex, (if not in Tamarindo!!). We would definitely recommend this location to our friends and family.

We just returned from a week’s long stay at this beautiful penthouse. Two families, both with young children, had enough room to roam and play. Anything we needed was right at our fingertips. We just placed a call and received great service. The photos used are very accurate. And the place is well kept. Tamarindo is a cute, surfer town with wonderful international restaurants. The Diria Resort, where the penthouse is located, has great pools and is always kept very clean!! Every morning the staff was out tending to the resort’s grounds. The best thing about where we stayed is that you can drink right out of the tap and eat the produce without having the worry of getting sick (like you might in other countries). They have advanced water filter systems which made us feel better considering we had young children with us. The staff at Blue Water Properties went above and beyond. If this penthouse is not right for you, they have other options that may be more suiting to your needs. One of their staff, Heiner, spent his day off as our driver for one long day trip to Lake Arenal. He had his childhood buddy, Marco, be our guide. Marco is currently getting his Master’s in Ecotourism, so we thought, “Why not?” It was the best part of our trip!!! No regrets!! They came over the night before to plan out our day and really took into consideration the ages of our young children (22mo, 6, 9). Everywhere we went was perfect for everyone: Animal refuge, a random sloth in the tree (which apparently had been there for weeks), the hanging bridges in the rainforest, and the Baldi hot springs (with waterslides!). In between all of that, we stopped at a restaurant that had the best Costa Rican food and their rice and beans were so flavorful. They ended our tour by driving us down a road to view the volcano’s lava pouring down the sides. SPECTACULAR!!! Yira and Becky in the office were fantastic, hospitable, and always available to communicate with us whenever we had questions. We accidentally left my son’s lovey in the bed sheets and they helped find it and put it in the mail right away. My son was ecstatic to see his Tigger:) Don’t doubt for one second that this penthouse or Blue Water Properties is right for you. You won’t regret it.

Working with Becky Clower was a dream-come- true! She and her associate Lourdes are very professional, kind, communicative, available and absolutely MADE our vacation trip to Tamarindo the most positive trip I’ve ever taken to date. The property was above and beyond what the pictures and description described on the listing. It is a gorgeous property within walking distance to all of the amenities Tamarindo has to offer! The views from the property are stunning. We travelled as a party of 8 and all of us were blown away by the beauty of the property and the location. We had an absolutely wonderful time – 2 families of 4. There was more than enough room for all of us and the ocean views were fantastic. Not a detail was overlooked. The kids loved the pool(s) that were ours to use at the Diria Resort. We often ate lunch there after a morning of boogie boarding and body surfing in the Pacific. An excellent “supermercado” is less than a 5 minute walk from the complex. Bathsheba (costaricacatering AT yahoo DOT com) prepared a great meal for the whole crew on our first night. I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful experience we were able to enjoy in the Tamarindo “Diria Matapalo Penthouse”. The penthouse was amazing, we all enjoyed it greatly. We didn’t expect this type of luxurious hospitality for what we paid for. The views from each room are awesome, the master bedroom is incredibly enormous, with great finishes and a great bathroom as well. The other rooms have a large area to fit everything one needs for vacationing and more. The beds were extremely comfortable in each room, we had no complaints from the 8 of us that were there. Pool table was of quality, and living room area was more than comfortable for our group. We actually enjoyed the college football game on saturday, LSU vs Florida gators in the living room. We had a blast! Best part about it all, was that everything is walking distance from the main strip, Bars, restuarants, stores, mall, etc… not to mention the beach which is one block away. Thank you for this experience we were able to enjoy to the fullest! I will reccommend this to everyone I know!

Thanks again for working with us at the last minute and getting us settled into this fabulous condo. We were so comfortable in the condo and appreciated having all the necessities – plenty of towels, wonderful bedding and a fully outfitted kitchen. We enjoyed the pool and the proximity to the beach and nearby stores and restaurants. This is the perfect spot for a family of five. You’d be surprised how difficult it is to find such. Thanks for making this such a relaxing vacation!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We found this property to be as advertised and were very happy with our stay here. The two bedrooms and two bathrooms had good beds and were nicely appointed. The view was great, overlooking the pool and the ocean beyond. Our only disappointment was that the water feature of the pool was not operational and that would have added a lot. We would definitely recommend this to others. The location was right off the main street, but situated on the side of a hill, so we were above any street noise and had a great view. The beach was just across the street, so access to everything–restaurants, stores, ATMs, etc., was very easy. We found everything well maintained and in working order. Our only problem was finding a key that would operate the safe. We eventually had to drive to the rental property office to get the correct key. Other than that, all was great. We even had a number of English speaking TV channels (out of Denver) so my husband could keep up with the NCAA basketball playoffs! Made him a happy camper. The only warning I would give was about the howler monkeys. The trees are loaded with them and they do howl. It can sometimes be pretty disruptive and the locals then shoot off mortars and some sort of cannon to scare them away. It can be quite startling the first time you encounter that. It happened a couple of times during the week we were there. We had a great visit and would definitely recommend this location to anyone wanting the modern conveniences and comforts with a great location.

My wife and two young daughters enjoyed our stay at your Sunrise Penthouse condo immensely! It was everything you advertised it to be: beautifully furnished, excellent view of the ocean, fantastic pool, great security, and all right across the street from the beach and within a short walk to all our favorite Tamarindo restaurants. In addition, your Tico Travel drivers were courteous and helpful. We especially liked the drive from Tabacon Springs to San Jose from Jonathan, your cousin. He was VERY informative about the country and went the extra mile to show us things we never would have even known to ask about — for example, he stopped at a factory just a few miles from the San Jose airport, where all of the souvenirs we had seen at various shops throughout the country were made. He would have provided a tour of the factory if we’d had enough time. Thanks again! We’ll be back.

Pura Vida Penthouse was gated! However, I never felt in danger of anything anywhere. It is the Perfect walking distance from grocery, shopping, and the many different excellent restaurants. It was so good not needing a car but a rental business is nearby. The surf is just across the street!! You can walk forever on the beautiful, long and natural beach of the Pacific Ocean! You will know you are in the tropics!The lovely pool is warmed by the sun enough that it is so easy to get into and I didn’t want to get out. The full kitchen, washer and dryer let us enjoy every day to the fullest. The large windows, the view, the many TV channels, all move in ready! Everything is comfortable. Central AC is wonderful but you could just open your large windows and the doors to your furnished private patio!There are many places in the world to visit, but I want to return to the Sunshine Condo!
