What happens when you bring together a native Floridian and a Saskatchewan-born Canadian, both with decades of first-hand experience living, investing, and working in Costa Rica? You get the Jane & Dennis Team.

Jane has called Costa Rica home for more than three decades, while Dennis has lived and invested here for more than two decades. Their experience goes far beyond real estate transactions: both have purchased property, built homes, invested locally, and experienced for themselves many of the decisions their clients face when buying, investing, or relocating to Costa Rica.

Both are members of the Costa Rica Global Association of REALTORS® (CRGAR) and bring an international perspective to a deeply local understanding of Guanacaste. Dennis has been a permanent resident of Costa Rica since 2011, and Jane since 2005.

Jane

A native Floridian, Jane’s connection with Costa Rica began long before she made it her permanent home. After numerous trips throughout the country and especially Guanacaste, she made her first Costa Rican real estate investment in 1994, purchasing an oceanfront lot in Playa Flamingo with her mother. What began as a small home later grew into a Spanish Colonial-style residence, establishing deep roots in the community. Her investments have also included a condominium in Escazú, giving her personal experience with both coastal and urban property ownership in Costa Rica.

Jane’s real estate career began in Florida, where she earned her real estate license in 1976 and initially worked with Coldwell Banker. She later managed sales and rentals for Universal Environmental Control, a development company involved in multi-unit residential construction in the Jacksonville Beaches area.

Her career later expanded into communications and broadcasting with the PGA TOUR in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, where she spent seven years while maintaining her connection to real estate. Growing up around her family’s brokerage business, real estate—particularly in coastal and resort communities—remained a natural part of her professional life.

In the early 1990s, Jane became a founding partner of Roadshow Music Corp. Florida, a music publishing and production company in the Orlando area. Her work included communications, catalog licensing, artist management, and legal affairs, allowing her to build relationships throughout the United States and internationally.

As technology made it increasingly possible to conduct business between Costa Rica and the United States, Jane combined her professional network with her growing knowledge of the Costa Rican market. Friends and colleagues began turning to her for help identifying properties and understanding opportunities in a country she had already chosen as home.

In 2008 and 2009, Jane worked with the Alegría Condominium Development’s resort sales operation in Playa Flamingo, a planned 150-unit community, while also participating in the sale and development of other private properties in the area. She has served on the board of the Flamingo Homeowners’ Association and has remained involved in the local community.

Jane joined KRAIN Real Estate in 2014, where she spent more than seven years helping international clients navigate the Costa Rican property market. Dennis later joined her, forming the partnership they continue today.

In 2021, Jane and Dennis joined Blue Water Properties, beginning a new chapter with a brokerage whose regional presence extends across Guanacaste’s North Pacific coast.

Dennis

Dennis was born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada, and spent approximately 30 years living and working in Alberta before making Costa Rica his home.

His Costa Rican story began in 2004 with an unforgettable journey: he drove his motorhome from Edmonton, Alberta, all the way to Playa Potrero. That trip ultimately became much more than an adventure. Dennis made his first investment in Costa Rica that year, later building his own home in the Surfside community of Potrero, where he has lived ever since.

Already experienced in purchasing, improving, and reselling homes and land in Canada, Dennis quickly developed a strong interest in the Costa Rican property market. He eventually became co-owner of Surfside Properties, a local company involved in real estate sales and property management.

Before transitioning more fully into real estate, Dennis built an extensive career in the electrical and energy industries. He began working in the electrical trade in 1975 and started his own electrical company in 1978. His professional credentials include an Alberta and Interprovincial Electrical Red Seal qualification and Alberta Master Electrician certification.

Dennis also spent more than 30 years in Canada’s oil industry, working in contract-management positions with companies including Esso, Shell, and BP Amoco.

His international experience included 16 months in Iraq under a U.S. government contract through KBR, working across six bases. During that assignment, Dennis received recognition for outstanding service connected with efforts to establish a medical aid facility at Forward Operating Base Hammer, supporting the safety and care of both civilian contractors and military personnel.

After decades of Canadian winters, Dennis remains a firm believer that everyone deserves the opportunity to find their own “place in the sun.” He brings that perspective to clients who are considering the same type of life-changing move he once made himself.
