Residential Communities

at Hacienda Pinilla

Sprawling 4,500 acres, Hacienda Pinilla is almost a town unto itself. To create an even greater sense of community and friendship, Pinilla has subdivided its acreage into several residential communities – in essence, smaller neighborhoods, each with their own architectural styles, private amenities, and personalities.

When trying to figure out which residential community best suits your personality, there’s nothing better than a tour to and through every one. In the meantime, here’s a brief introduction to each.

Los Malinches

This gorgeous, residential community rises into a special collection of Spanish Colonial-styled townhome villas with Guanacaste’s cattle ranch charm. The community’s charming ambiance extends to lush landscaping, tropical courtyards, an infinity-edge pool, and a colonial chapel.

Reserva de Golf

For the golf aficionados among us, there’s nowhere better than spectacular Reserva de Golf, Hacienda Pinilla’s golf-front residential community. Here, in front of holes 4, 5, and 6, you’ll enjoy incredible golf green views, as well as easy access to Hacienda Pinilla’s stables, tennis courts, Beach Club, and other amenities.

Palma Real

Named for its waving palms, Palma Real is a gorgeous retreat, framed by tropical gardens and a peaceful lake. Within, you’ll find the two smaller communities of Jardines de Palma Real (set around the gardens) and Lago de Palma real (located at the lake). This community is within walking distance of the beach.

Las Brisas

Named for its tropical breezes (brisas), Las Brisas is surrounded by rolling mountains and rare tropical dry forest – a perfect natural complement to its oversized properties, lush trees, and Hacienda Pinilla’s famed skatepark.

Los Alemendros

If you’ve ever wondered how many shades of green could exist, then living in Los Almendros (the “Almond Trees”) will touch your soul. Here, Costa Rica’s most prevalent hue decorates almost every inch of the view – except to the west, where the Pacific Ocean crashes at the feet of this beachfront community.

Las Golondrinas

Located along the scenic coast of Playa Bonita, Las Golondrinas is named for the swallows (of the avian variety) that you might spot here. That said, you’ll mostly be looking out, not up: this residential community is located both oceanfront and beachfront, and is one of Hacienda Pinilla’s most exclusive neighborhoods. Available properties are rare!

Avellanas

Easily another of Hacienda Pinilla’s most exclusive residential communities, Avellanas is located along the shores of its spectacular namesake, Playa Avellanas. These beachfront homes and homesites are rarely available, thanks to their scarcity and gorgeous surrounds, which not only include the Pacific but also a natural wildlife preserve and a tranquil estuary.

La Dulce Vida

Heralding the “Sweet Life,” La Dulce Vida (pronounced lah dool-say vee-dah) is an exclusive community, even within the already exclusive confines of Hacienda Pinilla. For here, you’ll find not just a beachfront community but the smallest at Pinilla; there are just two-dozen homesites located within!

Located in the space between ranch and sea, Hacienda Pinilla’s spectacular, multi-million-dollar beach club is the sparkling crown jewel of the community’s amenities. Located beachfront at Playa Avellanas, here you’ll have access to the surf, sand, tide pools, and a host of Beach Club amenities, including an infinity-edge swimming pool, Beach Club Bar & Restaurant, fitness center, and more.

Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course

Home to one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful settings and greatest golf challenges, the Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course delivers 18 holes with up to 7,200 yards of play overlooking the ocean and tropical dry forest views. Beautiful, jaw-dropping, and impressive are all understatements, if you appreciate sweeping landscapes and value nature.

A design and ecological masterpiece, this Mike Young-designed course is also designated as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, in recognition of its above-and-beyond conservation efforts, which include restoring natural ecosystems, fiercely protecting wildlife, and respecting its setting and the natural contours of the land.

Hacienda Pinilla Tennis Courts

If you can’t wait to practice your serve, then head straight to the community’s tennis courts, which include two courts and top-quality surfaces, etched beneath the shade of the palms. There’s also an onsite tennis pro, available for private and group lessons, monthly events, and more.

Hiking & Mountain Biking Trails

Hacienda Pinilla is undeniably a community built around the outdoor lifestyle, including mountain biking. It’s no surprise, then, that this beachside community has carved out 45 kilometers of scenic routes, challenging tracks, and enjoyable rides and hikes for everyone, from beginners to experts alike.

Easily some of the best mountain biking in Guanacaste and Costa Rica, Pinilla’s trails chase coastline, forest, and mountain, weaving through its historic cattle ranchland. There are also several kilometers of bike-friendly farm roads within the community, if you’re seeking an easier ride or prefer a road bike.

Horseback Riding

Born of historic ranchland, Hacienda Pinilla recalls our provincial heritage at its horseback riding stables. Whether you’re an experienced rider or ready to take your first jaunt on horseback, Hacienda Pinilla offers 16 kilometers of dedicated horseback riding trails, which cover coastlines, hills, beaches, and back country.

Guanacaste is home to some of Costa Rica’s most beautiful beaches – and Hacienda Pinilla may house a few of your soon-to-be-favorites! We’re talking powder-soft sands and sun-kissed coastlines, sparkling sea and views that stretch for miles…

Often cited as one of the top ten beaches in Central America, Playa Avellanas is not just gorgeous but famous: it’s home to the “little Hawaii” surf break, where waves can reach 18 feet! Not quite your speed? Check out the Blue-Flag Playa Langosta, home to tree-lined sands, rocky tide pools, and soft sand, with the occasional roaring surf (especially at the river mouth).

If you want to slow it down even more, explore Playa Mansita, the “gentle” beach, known for its quiet waves, sapphire ocean, and hushed landscapes. It’s a true escape from both the crowds and the everyday!

Architecture

Hacienda Pinilla is built in the traditional Spanish Colonial style, blended with old-world Costa Rican hacienda (ranch) architecture that paints the hills and plains of Guanacaste.

Each residential community displays its own style and personality, often at the hands of some of our country and region’s most renowned architects. As an example, Ronald Zurcher, the remarkable and famed Costa Rican architect behind the Guanacaste JW Marriott and the Four Seasons Papagayo, designed the Los Malinches residential community.
