Jane and Dennis | Real Estate Consultant

Put together a native Canadian and a native Floridian, and what do you have? The team of Jane and Dennis!  With Dennis’ 17 years in Costa Rica, and Jane a whopping 27 years,

both having invested heavily here. They make a perfect mix of experience to help you navigate the Costa Rican real estate market. Both are members of the Costa Rica Global Association of Realtors (CRGAR), which is affiliated with the International Consortium of Real Estate Associations (ICREA), a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) in the U.S.; and a liaison for investors between Canada and Costa Rica.  Dennis has been a Permanent Resident since 2011 and Jane since 2005.  Both also now will hold Costa Rican Citizenship. 

A native Floridian, Jane made the move to Costa Rica over twenty seven years ago. After many trips to Guanacaste through earlier years, and having many chances to tour the country, she had literally fallen in love with Costa Rica and made her first investment in 1994 with her mother in an oceanfront lot in Flamingo.  Building first a small home, which some years later grew into a huge Spanish Colonial style home, she set down major roots here. Other investments have included a condo in the San Jose area of Escazu which she bought for a second “city” home.  She became a permanent resident of Costa Rica many years ago, and is now is becoming a full citizen of the country.

Jane received her Florida Real Estate license in 1976, working first with Coldwell Banker, and eventuallly managed the sales and rentals for Universal Environmental Control, a construction development which built over twenty apartment buildlings, and the first high-rise condo in the Jacksonville Beaches area. 

Some years later, Jane was offered a position working in Communications and Broadcasting for the PGA Golf Tour in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL where she spent 7 years, but always kept one foot in the business of real estate.  Growing up in a family brokerage in Florida, it was a natural path for Jane to follow in her parents’ footsteps and delve into the beach resort market.  

In the early 90’s Jane left it all to become a founding partner in Roadshow Music Corp. Florida., a music publishing and production company in the Orlando area, which was fast becoming the new entertainment center of the south.  Working primarily in communication, licensing of catalog product, and management of artists and legal affairs, she made many contacts all over the world.  And with the coming of the internet to Costa Rica, she was able to combine her life here with her business ties in Los Angeles, New York and Florida.  With the airport in Liberia being so close, travel was a breeze.   And with real estate still in her blood, she began to locate properties here in Costa Rica for like-minded friends and colleagues who wanted to invest in what she calls “The Dream Life of the Tropics,” beginning her involvement with Costa Rican investments. 

In 2008 and 2009,  Jane brokered a real estate resort sales office in Flamingo for the Alegría Condominium Development,  a 150 unit planned community, and was also involved in the sale and development of other private properties in Flamingo.  She is a past board member of the Flamingo Homeowners’ Association, and has been active in community development. 

In 2014, Jane joined Krain Real Estate who had just moved to Costa Rica from Chicago.  She spent over seven sucessful years there helping clients from all over the world find their perfect spot. Dennis joined her as partner there.  In 2021, they started a new chapter of their real estate careers with a move to Blue Water Properties, an exciting, fast-paced, and now largest area real estate agency with several offices in Guanacaste, including Tamarindo, Playas del Coco and now, Flamingo!

Dennis was born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada, and moved to Costa Rica after living and working thirty years in the province of Alberta.  He made his first investment in Costa Rica in 2004, after driving his motorhome all the way from Edmonton, Alberta to Playa Potrero!  He built his own home in the Surfside area of Potrero and has lived there ever since. Having experience in the Canadian market, investing and improving homes and land for resale, he soon found a continuing interest in the real estate market in Costa Rica, and became co-owner of Surfside Properties, a local agency that dealt in real estate sales and property management.

Originally starting his electrical career in 1975 and his own electrical company in 1978, he obtained an Alberta and Interprovincial Electrical “Red Seal” and obtained an Alberta Electrical Masters Certificate in 2000. Dennis spent over thirty years in the oil industry in Canada in contract management positions to such companies as Esso, Shell, and BP Amoco.  He spent sixteen months in Iraq in contract with the U.S. Government through KBR working in six different bases.  While there, he is proud to have received the ”82nd Airborne Brigade Support Battalion Award for Outstanding Service” in the mission to establish a Medical Aid Station at FOB Hammer to ensure the safety of civilian contractors and military soldiers serving there.  

With strong beliefs that everyone should be able to avoid shoveling snow, and finally have “their place in the sun,” Dennis gives his all to helping people from all over the world build their dream in Costa Rica, just as he did.
